Essay and assignment writing
An essay is a style of assessment very common to Higher Education courses, especially in the humanities/social sciences. Essays have their own logic which takes some time to master.
Writing an essay involves presenting an argument on a particular topic, usually building on secondary academic material.
Depending on the style of essay, you will usually need to divide your time between researching (utilising library resources, for example), writing and editing.
Students often spend too much time on research and forget to write and re-write their essays so that they are conveying the primary point/points that they intended to. To help with this issue, remember to plan your essay before you begin writing it, as structure is often a downfall of student essays. Then leave enough time to edit your essay, as good writing is always re-writing.
